Oscar Nominations

The Oscar nominations came out this morning and there aren't many surprises except for the fact that instead of 5 Best Pictures to chose from, the category has now been expanded to 10 flicks! Were movies THAT GOOD this year that they could not bring it down to 5?! lol

Avatar and The Hurt Locker lead the Academy Awards with nine nominations each -- including best picture and best director for James Cameron and ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow. Both films are also among the 10 nominees in the best picture category, along with The Blind Side,Inglorious Basterds, District 9, Precious, A Serious Man, Up, Up in the Air & An Education.

Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Christoph Waltz and Mo'Nique -- who have dominated the awards season so far -- all received nominations.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be presented March 7th at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

Who's my Doppelganger?

I can't believe this made the news, but it did!!

Facebook's next biggest craze appears to be Doppelganger Week. In order to celebrate Doppelganger Week, Facebook users switch their profile pictures to famous people they have been told they resemble. Have you participated in this? I'm not the type to participate in Facebook games like that or the whole "change your status to..." thing, BUT it made me wonder who I would pick that ressembles me and I came up with.... Nothing!!! I have absolutely NO IDEA!! haha

So, here are a couple of pictures of me...

HELP ME FIND MY DOPPELGANGER!!

I'll give a prize on Friday to whoever finds the best doppelganger for me!

Grammys in a nut shell!

Some of the biggest names in music came out last night (Sunday, Jan31) for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards. The ladies ruled the evening -- with Beyonce and Taylor Swift both taking home top honors!

Beyonce led the pack with 10 nods & ended up making history for the most wins by a female artist in a single Grammy night by scoring six trophies (incl. song of the year for "Single Ladies"). Swift entered with eight nominations and left with four, including one of the event's most prestigious awards -- album of the year! Not sure I understand that win, but hey...

Other big winners: Kings of Leon scored record of the year for "Use Somebody." The Black Eyed Peas won three awards, including best pop vocal album for The E.N.D., and Jay-Z took home three --one for best rap solo performance and two awards for "Run This Town" with Rihanna and Kanye West (who was a no show).

MY TOP 3 MOMENTS:

1) Lady Gaga & Elton John's duet:

2) Pink should be part of Cirque du Soleil:

3) Green Day scored big singing with the cast of their Broadway version of American Idiot (and with a Grammy for Best Rock Album):

Finally, special mention goes to the duet of Mary J Blige and Andrea Bocelli -- a song that can be downloaded for Haiti relief and just poured chills down my spine:

There you go! Grammy Awards 2010 in a nut shell!

"Pants On The Ground" a rip off??

OMG -- this has to be the most ridiculous accusation ever, but what wouldn't people do for their 15sec of fame?!?!

Remember that creepy old man, Larry Platt, on American Idol that sang the now viral hit "Pants On The Ground"??

Well, apparently the Green Brothers recorded and copyrighted a song back in 1996 called "Back Pockets on the Floor" that is almost identical to "Pants On The Ground". The Green Bros. claim their rap was the original, posting (along with the below video for their own song) "This is in regards to the General Larry Platt 'Pants on The Ground.' His song is a takeoff of the Green Brothers song 'Back Pockets On The Floor.' The General's song have the same intent, idea and in part the same message." Ayayaille...

Check it out:

YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!

All I can say is that, either way, I would not be proud to have written that song! haha It's horrible!!

Avatar... not number 1!!

Boxoffice is straightforward; you have this weekly Top 10 list of returns, you compare each movie to the other movies and voila!!! Yet one respect in which boxoffice reporting is pretty odd – it emphasizes ticket grosses yet rarely mentions ticket sales. That would be like always reporting how many ad dollars sold off "Lost" and not mentioning the number of viewers that actually watched the show. Isn’t that weird…

So "Avatar" might be The Biggest Movie of All Time based on grosses ($1.859 billion and counting), it's important to remember how rising ticket prices skew the returns... so if we look at number of tickets sold, here's the Top 20 movies of all time:

1 "Gone With the Wind" (1939) 202,044,600
2 "Star Wars" (1977) 178,119,600
3 "The Sound of Music" (1965) 142,415,400
4 "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) 141,854,300
5 "The Ten Commandments" (1956) 131,000,000
6 "Titanic" (1997) 128,345,900
7 "Jaws" (1975) 128,078,800
8 "Doctor Zhivago" (1965) 124,135,500
9 "The Exorcist" (1973) 110,568,700
10 "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937) 109,000,000
11 "101 Dalmatians" (1961) 99,917,300
12 "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980) 98,180,600
13 "Ben-Hur" (1959) 98,000,000
14 "Return of the Jedi" (1983) 94,059,400
15 "The Sting" (1973) 89,142,900
16 "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981) 88,141,900
17 "Jurassic Park" (1993) 86,205,800
18 "The Graduate" (1967) 85,571,400
19 "Star Wars: Episode I" (1999) 84,825,800
20 "Fantasia" (1941) 83,043,500

"Avatar," despite topping the worldwide gross list, by and by, is only No. 26 on the ticket sales list with 76,421,000 sold ... at least, so far...

Basically, fans have the opportunity to download songs from the collection and then donate funds on a purely voluntary basis. Each download is a donation. The player used to download the music can be embedded at other websites, like Facebook & Myspace, therefore helping spread the word!

Who is participating?! Slash, the All-American Rejects, Hoobastank, Alanis Morissette, the Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel, Enrique Iglesias, Kennam, Lupe Fiasco/Kenna and others.
